Kangana Ranaut, who after a successful acting career, has now turned to politics and recently won the General Elections from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi constituency. The actor-turned-parliamentarian recently spoke about how she was first approached to join politics after her debut film Gangster and how she plans on balancing her work in the movies along with her duties as an MP.
In a recent chat with The Himachal Podcast, she revealed that various members of her family have been previously approached by local political leaders. “This is not the first time I was approached to join politics, I have received several other offers in the past. Soon after Gangster, I was offered a ticket. My great-grandfather was an MLA for at least three terms. So when you belong to such a family, and taste some success, the local leaders approach you. It is very common. In fact, my father had received an offer. My sister was offered to join politics after she survived the acid attack. So for us, it is not a big deal for us to get political offers,” she said.
She added, “I was also approached in 2019. If I wasn’t interested in this, I didn’t really have to go through so much trouble. I am not looking at it as just a break. It’s a very difficult place to be in and I am prepared. I think if God has blessed me with this opportunity, then I will surely do it with all my honesty. More than me, the people of Mandi want to have someone who will save them from corrupt people. And for that, they have chosen me. I don’t want to let them down.”
Speaking about how she will balance her life as an actress and politician, the Tanu Weds Manu actor said, “I am somebody who follows her passion. If you look at me in the film industry, I am an actor, writer, director and producer. And here in my political career, if I have to engage myself with the people here, I will go ahead with it. However, I won’t deny that the work in the film industry is comparatively easier than in politics. The latter takes a lot of effort. It is a harsh life, just like doctors, where only troubled people come to see you. When you go to watch a film, you are very relaxed. But, politics isn’t like it.” Kangana had previously hinted that she might retire from movies if she wins the election.
Kangana then spoke about being stuck in a cycle in the movies and said that she wanted more from her life. She said, “Every human being in their life always wants to do a little more, and when you notice, you see, you are stuck in a cycle. You will notice, you are in a cycle of hit film, flop film, and then you will feel like I am not more. And then something happens and your belief breaks. You look around. You see whoever has invented something in their life, it was never because they wanted to, it was always because it was needed.”
“Similarly, I want to go beyond my limited little life. Even in the film industry, if you notice, you will see that I always wanted to be more than a pretty face. I always wanted to do something more and that something more has got me here and I am happy to be here.”
On the work front, she will next be seen Emergency which stars her in the role of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Kangana has directed the film.
