Filmmaker Karan Johar on Wednesday commented on the slap incident involving actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut and said he doesn’t support any kind of “verbal or physical” violence. Last week, Kangana was slapped by a by a CISF constable at Chandigarh airport reportedly due to the actor’s comments on farmers’ protest. In attendance to launch the trailer of his next actioner Kill, Karan Johar was asked to comment on the incident.
When asked about the slap incident, Karan told reporters, “Dekhiye, I do not support any kind of violence, verbal or physical.”
Karan and Kangana have been at loggerheads ever since she called him the “flagbearer of nepotism” on his talk show Koffee with Karan in 2017. Over the years, the actor has frequently criticised Karan for furthering nepotism in the film industry and has also addressed him as “movie mafia” on many occasions.
After the incident, the film star had lashed out at those who had made snide remarks about the incident. Kangana had said those cheering for the violence against her must introspect about their own “psychological criminal tendencies.”
Composer Vishal Dadlani, who has been a vocal anti-establishment voice, had claimed he would be glad to offer the CISF personnel a job, in case she needed one after the incident. In two separate Instagram stories, the composer had said if Kaur is “removed” from her services, he would ensure she is “gainfully employed.”
Based on a complaint lodged by the CISF, the Mohali police had registered an FIR against Kulwinder Kaur under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code.
