Kartik Aaryan says as an outsider, he lives with the fear that ‘any Friday may be my last’: ‘I don’t have any other backup’ | Bollywood News

When Kartik Aaryan burst onto the Indian film scene with Luv Ranjan’s Pyaar Ka Punchnama, his standout monologue became an instant hit. Kartik acknowledges that for a considerable time, he was known as the “monologue guy,” until his role in Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety brought him the stardom he now enjoys. As he gears up for the release of Chandu Champion directed by Kabir Khan, Kartik remains vocal about his journey, gracefully embracing the tag of an ‘outsider’ and attributing his success to sheer hard work.

Reflecting on the persistent ‘outsider’ label, Kartik told Hindustan Times, “It is what it is.” “When I started my journey in Bollywood, I didn’t know anyone here. And the way it is going on to date, things are the same. Everything’s the same for me. Some Fridays are successful and some are not. But the fact remains that I have never been an insider,” Kartik added.

Acknowledging his origins from outside the industry he admitted that the fear of his career coming to a sudden end doesn’t leave him. He added, “It is a mindset which is going to stay with me. Till date, I believe that any Friday can be a last Friday also. This is the echo that keeps on going in my mind. Ke kahin mera pack up na ho jaaye (I hope it’s not a pack up for my career)”.

For Kartik, his Bollywood journey has been an open narrative, witnessed by all, highs and lows alike with a fair number of hits and misses at the box office. He admitted that he is aware of the lack of ‘backup’ for him and therefore, he is focused on working hard on each project he undertakes. “Maybe, somewhere down the line, I (know that I) don’t have any other backup. I don’t have anywhere else to go, and I might not get a second or a third chance. This is the fear that is constant in my head,” he rued.

Kartik, who is often posed with the question of being an ‘outsider’ in this industry and making it big despite not being an ‘insider’ or part of any camps, expressed “I am proud of that journey, and that’s the reason I’m more vocal about it. And it is a good thing. Whoever has made it on his own, should be really proud of it,” he shares with pride.

Festive offer

While Kartik has established himself as a bankable star with box office successes, he remains grounded, wary of the transient nature of success in Bollywood. He tasted success with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 but Love Aaj Kal turned out to be a disaster. His film Shehzada also received a lukewarm response at the box office. “You cannot take success for granted. In fact, sometimes I even hesitate to say the term ‘success’… You may call it superstition, or nazar lag jaati hai…. I’m just doing my job. I hope people continue to show their love and their interest in what I’m doing. I will keep on doing work like the way I’ve been doing it and won’t get attached to flops or hits,” he asserted.
