Actor-singer-songwriter Keke Palmer and her Big Bosses Entertainment imprint have partnered with the SRG-ILS Group, which is distributed by Universal Music’s Virgin Music Group, the companies announced on Tuesday. Palmer’s first release under the new partnership will drop in early summer.
Palmer, an Emmy Award-winning actor, singer-songwriter, producer, author and television host, founded Big Bosses with Sharon Palmer and her longtime music manager, Billy Clark, in 2017. Since debuting her first studio album “So Uncool” in 2007, Palmer has released three mixtapes, one compilation album, and four Eps, as well as a second studio album, “Big Boss,” last year. A companion visual album received an NAACP Award nomination for Outstanding Direction (by Palmer).
Palmer first rose to prominence through her role in “Akeelah and the Bee” at age 12, and has gone on to star in more than 25 films and 30 television shows, including Jordan Peele’s acclaimed film “Nope,” Roadside Attraction’s “Alice,” which she also executive produced, STX’s “Hustlers,” Fox’s “Scream Queens” and Nickelodeon’s “True Jackson, VP.” She also hosts a podcast, “Baby, This Is Keke Palmer” for Wondery/Amazon, and founded her own digital network, KeyTV.
Palmer and SZA are set to star in an untitled buddy comedy film for TriStar Pictures, announced last month. Lawrence Lamont (“Rap Sh!t”) is set to direct with the screenplay written by “Rap Sh!t” showrunner Syreeta Singleton.
HOORAE’s Issa Rae and Sara Diya Rastogi, ColorCreative’s Deniese Davis and Macro Film Studios’ Charles D. King, James Lopez, and Poppy Hanks are producing. Singleton is co-producing. Big Boss’ Palmer and Sharon Palmer are executive producing.
