Ever since its launch two months ago, comedian Aashish Solanki’s celebrity roast show has drawn millions of viewers, largely due to the presence of some high-profile guests from the entertainment industry. Titled Pretty Good Roast Show, the first season concluded a few weeks ago with an episode featuring social media influencer and actor Kusha Kapila as the roastee. While Solanki took on his usual role as roast master, the roasters included Samay Raina, Gurleen Pannu, Aaditya Kulshreshth aka Kullu, and Shreya Priyam Roy. Garnering over 11 million views, this episode became the season’s second-most-watched, after the one featuring Anubhav Singh Bassi.

Despite the format of roast shows being well-known and infamous for featuring a roastee subjected to dark and insulting jokes by the panel members, often evoking polarising reactions, the episode featuring Kusha raised more eyebrows, especially for Samay Raina’s “jokes.” With most of his remarks targetting Kusha’s marriage, divorce, and even sex life, a few of which were censored by the show, the episode quickly became a hot topic on social media, with many questioning how Kusha handled it. Now, the Thank You For Coming actor has come forward addressing the matter.

During a recent Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on Instagram, Kusha revealed that she has restricted phrases like Samay Raina, Samay, Aashish Solanki, dark humour, dark comedy, and roast show on the platform. When an Instagrammer asked, “How did you manage to handle the brutal roast? Especially Samay,” she replied, “Not my first time on the rodeo. In the large scheme of things, nothing matters. Probably when I have processed all of it, I will speak about it on a level-headed podcast (lol do we have any) or maybe never. We will see. This profile continues to be a safe space for my female and queer followers.”

Kusha’s response has sparked further discussion on Reddit, with many debating whether she took the roast well. While some believe Samay crossed the line multiple times, others noted that she seemed fine during the show, which she willingly participated in, suggesting they are probably friends.

Kusha has not taken the roast too well.

Kusha Kapila and her husband Zorawar Ahluwalia, who got married in 2017 after dating for a few years, announced their separation in June, 2023. “Zorawar and I have mutually decided to part ways. This hasn’t been an easy decision by any measure, but we know it’s the right one at this point in our lives. The love and life we have shared together continue to mean everything for us, but sadly, what we seek currently for ourselves doesn’t align. We gave it our all until we couldn’t anymore,” she said in a social media post.
