Hours after Malaika Arora’s stepfather Anil Mehta’s death, the Bollywood actor and television personality shared a note on social media in his memory. Malaika’s stepfather Anil died on Wednesday morning due to an alleged suicide in Bandra, Mumbai.
On Wednesday night, Malaika posted an image on social media featuring Anil Mehta’s photo, along with a heartfelt message. “He was a gentle soul, a devoted grandfather, a loving husband, and our best friend. Our family is in deep shock by this loss, and we kindly request privacy from the media and well-wishers during this difficult time,” the family’s statement read. The message was shared on behalf of her mother Joyce Polycarp, Malaika’s son Arhaan Khan, her sister Amrita Arora, Amrita’s husband Shakeel Ladak and their children, Azaan and Rayyan, as well as Malaika herself.

Although sources close to the actor suggested it may have been an accident, police informed The Indian Express that “prima facie, it seems to be a case of suicide,” but all possible angles are being investigated by the cops. Malaika, who was in Pune at the time, rushed to her parents’ home in Bandra upon hearing the news. A video showing a visibly distraught Malaika entering the premises, surrounded by photographers, was shared on social media.
Besides Anil’s immediate relatives, Malaika’s former husband Arbaaz Khan and his family — including his father, renowned screenwriter Salim Khan, his mother Salma Khan and brother Sohail Khan — visited the Arora residence to pay their respects to the deceased. Malaika’s ex-boyfriend Arjun Kapoor and close friend Kareena Kapoor Khan were also seen arriving to support the grieving family.
