Malaika Arora’s stepfather Anil Mehta’s funeral: Son Arhaan, ex-husband Arbaaz Khan, Arjun Kapoor pay last respects | Bollywood News

Television and film personality Malaika Arora’s stepfather, Anil Mehta, died by alleged suicide on Wednesday. He was 62. His cremation was held at the Santacruz Hindu Crematorium in Mumbai on Thursday. Visuals from the crematorium showed Malaika arriving with her mother, Joyce Polycarp, and her son, Arhaan Khan. Arjun Kapoor and Arbaaz Khan were also seen arriving for the funeral. Arbaaz was seen with his wife, Sshura Khan.

Malaika was in Pune on Wednesday morning, but she rushed back to Mumbai as soon as she heard about her stepfather’s death. Her ex-husband Arbaaz Khan reached the Arora residence in Bandra before she arrived, followed by their son, Arhaan Khan. Soon after, the Khan family, including Salim Khan, Salma Khan, Helen, Sohail Khan, Alvira Agnihotri and Arpita Khan, also arrived. Malaika’s ex-boyfriend Arjun Kapoor was also present to offer his support. Her friends Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Karisma Kapoor and others also reached the Arora residence.

 

On Wednesday night, Malaika shared a note on Instagram, requesting privacy for her family. “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear father, Anil Mehta. He was a gentle soul, a devoted grandfather, a loving husband, and our best friend. Our family is in deep shock by this loss, and we kindly request privacy from the media and well-wishers during this difficult time. We appreciate your understanding, support and respect,” she shared.

Anil’s death came as a shock to his family and loved ones. The tragic incident is still being investigated by the police. An officer from Bandra police told The Indian Express, “Prima facie, it seems to be a case of suicide, but we are probing the incident from all angles. A process to file an accidental death report is on.” Malaika’s mother Joyce Polycarp also recorded her statement with the police on Wednesday evening.

Later in the night, Malaika and her sister Amrita were seen leaving the house. Arjun was there to escort Malaika safely to her car. With a lot of photographers stationed outside the building, Varun Dhawan took to his social media and called their behaviour insensitive. “It is the most insensitive thing to point cameras in the face of the people who are grieving please think what you people are doing or what someone is going through when u do this. I understand it is work but sometimes another human might not be Ohkay with this #humanity,” he shared on Instagram.
