Actress Mallika Sherawat has been away from the limelight for a while now. However, she will be seen in Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri’s film Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video. As Mallika makes a comeback in Bollywood, the actress opened up about the challenges she faced in her first innings in the industry. Revisiting her journey, Mallika lauded director Mahesh Bhatt for encouraging her progressive stance.
During an interview with Hautterfly, Mallika said, “I have met some fantastic men in my life. They have shaped me to be the woman that I am. Mahesh Bhatt sahab has given me wings. He has made a huge contribution to help me get out of those patriarchal shackles. When I was working on Murder with him, we would have long conversations, and his thoughts on things, even the women in his house, were very progressive. Because Bhatt Sahab is a very progressive man, so that brought a lot of change in me.”
Mallika Sherawat went on to share how she always felt very safe on the sets of Murder, especially when she had to shoot for bold scenes. She said, “All girls are very safe on his set. I felt very safe even doing those bold scenes in Murder. Of course, one feels a little uncomfortable because there are so many people from the unit. But both Bhatt sahab and Emraan Hashmi made me very comfortable. Emraan was an absolute gentleman.”
While Mallika Sherawat revised how the audience wasn’t ready for her back in 2004, she also shared that another amazing man she worked with was Jackie Chan. The actress shared he was always “very fantastic” and “encouraging”.
