Manoj Bajpayee says producers who ‘pamper’ stars are now complaining about rising fee, call out hypocrisy: ‘First you feed me rasgulla, then cry when I eat’ | Bollywood News

Actor Manoj Bajpayee is amused at the “contradiction” of some Hindi film producers, who are asking for reduction in star fees while they were the ones who had “pampered” the stars for their own benefits. Bajpayee’s comments come after the industry is course correcting its functioning, with rising star fees being a major point of contention.

Filmmaker Karan Johar had recently spoken about the exorbitant fees charged by top actors. Farah Khan had also commented on the rising overhead costs of making films, which are directly linked to outrageous demands of stars, which she called “wastage of resources”.

When asked about the rising stare fees, Manoj Bajpayee countered, “But who is giving them the money? Who has been giving them the money?” The actor told ETimes that the conversation is about the stars, “not an actor like me”.

“The stars are the face of the film. Everyone who signs a star, is riding on his shoulder. If the stars are asking f0r some facilities, I don’t think there is anything wrong, as long as it is not insane! Most of these stars sign a film with a reduced fee and a large chunk of profit sharing. ”

Manoj Bajpayee then pointed out the hypocrisy of some of the producers–without naming anyone–and said they were the ones who first “pampered” the stars with all the perks, including a higher fee.

Festive offer

“There is a contradiction when people, who have been pampering the stars and riding on their shoulders, are saying that the stars should reduce their fees! First you feed me rasgulla and protein so that I can go for a marathon, because I am the only one you think can win this race, and then you are crying over the number of rasgullas I ate or the protein shakes I drank!

“No one gave me this money. We go with our limited staff and have often sacrificed over basic facilities as well, but no one casts me. You will still cast a star, because they can guarantee that much number at the box office. At the end of the day, everyone is gambling,” he added.

An Indianexpress.com report had previously shed light on the menace of entourage cost, which are inflating budgets and risking a film’s recovery. The price breakup for the entourage of a star varies, but on average, a spot boy would charge Rs 25,000 per day, personal security would charge Rs 15,000 per head per day and a stylist can charge up to Rs 1 lakh. The overhead cost of a star amounts to Rs 20-22 lakh per day, which for a film shot over 70 days, would be additional cost of Rs 15-20 crore.
