Bollywood icons Meenakshi Seshadri and Vinod Khanna shared a notable professional rapport in the industry during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Their on-screen chemistry was evident in several films, including Satyamev Jayate (1987), Jurm (1990), Police, Mujrim (1990), Kshatriya (1993), and Humshakal (1992). In interviews and public appearances, Seshadri has often spoken fondly about Khanna.
She once described him as a dedicated and highly professional actor who made working on set a pleasant experience. In a recent interview with Lehren Retro, the 60-year-old actor said, “Vinod Khanna and I had a great equation. My dad loved visiting the sets when I was shooting with him. During lunchtime, we used to trade dirty jokes.”
She remembered the late actor as a very calm and composed person. “Vinod Khanna was a chill guy. He was at the top of his career. He used to go to the ashram and would come back and shoot,” she shared. The Damni star also spoke about the popular song “Jab Koi Baat Bigad Jaye” from Jurm which she shot with Amar Akbar Anthony star. “It was a perennial hit!” she exclaimed.
In an earlier interview with Filmfare, she said, “He’d listen to Osho Rajneesh’s tapes those days. He’d encourage me to listen to them, but never forced me. Later, he married Kavita Daftary. I attended some of their parties, something rare for me as I never socialised.” For the unversed, Khanna, despite his success, gave up his career to follow Osho (Bhagwan Rajneesh).
She appreciated his generosity and the ease with which he collaborated, which contributed to their successful on-screen pairings. Their films together often showcased a strong and dynamic on-screen partnership, which was well-received by audiences. Their camaraderie was not just limited to professional interactions but also extended to personal admiration.
“I’m not claiming that Vinodji was a great friend. But he was a gracious and inclusive person. On a lighter note, Vinodji brought out something in the Seshadris. My dad loved attending my shoots when I was filming with Vinodji. We three would share naughty jokes. Others would wonder what we were laughing at. I shared a fun relationship with my father where we shared jokes, played word games, etc. With Vinodji, it was an extension of that. I wasn’t comfortable with anyone else showing this side of my personality,” she added.
