Imagine finding out, in this internet age, that award shows follow a script. Shah Rukh Khan fans — along with other X users– had a task in hand to school a man about stage technicalities after he posted a video of the superstar using a teleprompter while hosting the recently concluded IIFA Awards.
The tweet, made on September 29, featured a video of the opening address of Shah Rukh Khan, where he was seen talking about the blockbuster year for Indian cinema in 2023. The user recorded the giant teleprompter placed opposite Shah Rukh, as the actor is on stage, purportedly referring to the lines on screen assisting him to follow the script. The user captioned the video, “Shah Rukh Khan used a teleprompter while hosting the IIFA 2024 awards show.”
While the tweet soon went viral–garnering several thousand views–X users were quick to say the revelation is “not a big deal” as it is a stage practice going on for years for any event which follows a script. It didn’t make matters easy that the said man in question, who posted the video claimed in his bio to be a Salman Khan fan– contributing to the ever-lasting online fan wars between the admirers of the two superstars.

“Shocker. twitter user discovers award shows are in fact scripted,” wrote a user while another added, “Teleprompters were made for this reason.” Several users noted how relying on teleprompter for assistance is the norm today and the post was done to “defame” Shah Rukh, who is also lauded for his public speaking skills.
“What’s the problem bro 😂, you think anyone can by heart a 30 min show? It’s an award show, youtubers you watch, tv shows like Kapil Sharma, everything has a script, whats the problem, some people are just finding negativity in everything,” another added.
This was the first time Shah Rukh Khan hosted the IIFA Awards. Though he remained away from the big screen this year–after three films Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki in 2023–Shah Rukh made a number of public appearances. He is currently gearing up for his next film, King, co-starring daughter Suhana Khan. The announcement video of the film is expected to drop on his birthday on November 2.
