Prabhas and Diljit Dosanjh come from different worlds but fans of both these stars were delighted when they came together for Kalki 2898 AD’s song “Bhairava Anthem.” Choreographer Pony Verma, who did the song with both these stars, recently opened up about working with them and how she decided to give a sardar look to Prabhas. Pony said that the producers and Prabhas were initially a little skeptical about it but Diljit immediately loved the idea.
Talking to Bollyywood Now, Pony shared that both stars were “very excited to meet each other.” But she also hinted that both were quite interested in how they were going to be presented. “Diljit was thinking that Prabhas is a big superstar so he must not get suppressed. Prabhas shouldn’t feel like Diljit has more lyrics so he is getting surpassed. I just told Diljit that you have come here like a king and I will see to it that you look like a king. Prabhas has a huge fan following and he is a big star so if we do something that goes against his image, his fans will make my life difficult,” she said.
Pony said that the “biggest challenge” she faced in the song was to please both North and South audiences. “North shouldn’t feel like they are given more importance and South shouldn’t feel like they are given more importance, both should look at par. That was the biggest challenge for me,” she said.
When asked about Prabhas’ sardar look in the song, Pony said she really liked Diljit’s Coachella look and thought of giving the same look to Prabhas as well. “I thought he will look amazing as a sardar. I told my producers about it but they were like this is the promotion of Kalki, why are you making him a sardar? They said this does not go with our film so I said this will be like a cherry on the cake when they walk as sardars with a swagger,” she shared.
Pony said that “Diljit immediately liked my idea” but Prabhas was skeptical about it. “Prabhas was like ‘Are you sure?’ Then there was a thought that south people shouldn’t feel bad. So I said they won’t. This is a culmination. This is a positive approach that North and South are coming together.”
Pony also mentioned that she believed that she was the “perfect person to choreograph this song.” “Diljit was laughing on set because I was talking to him in Punjabi on the set and I was giving instructions to Prabhas in Telugu. Diljit told Prabhas ‘You South guys took our Punjabi girl’. And I thought I am the perfect person to choreograph this because I could speak to both of them in their language,” she said. Pony is married to actor Prakash Raj.
