Priyanka Chopra’s mother Madhu Chopra, in a recent interaction, reflected on her daughter’s early days in the film industry and the impact of media intrusion on their lives. Madhu explained that, coming from a non-film background, they initially didn’t understand how media attention would affect them. However, as negative things were said about Priyanka in the media, it took a toll on them. Despite this, Madhu acknowledged that her confidence in Priyanka’s abilities helped them navigate through those challenging times.
In an interaction on the YouTube channel Breaking Stereotypes, Madhu shared, “We were very new, and we came from another industry. We were both doctors and film industry was absolutely new to us. We had stars in our eyes and we didn’t think of it as a hell hole. Such negative things didn’t even come to our mind when we came here.”
However, when Priyanka began working in the film industry, they started to see cracks in this glamorous world but decided to put their trust in her talent. “Then we saw the dirt in it and we would feel the pain during the beginning but Priyanka sat us down and told us, ‘Mom you know me best. So why believe all that rubbish.’ After that everything became alright,” she said.
Priyanka Chopra began her career with the Tamil film Thamizhan in 2002. After starring in acclaimed Hindi films like Don, Kaminey, Fashion, 7 Khoon Maaf, and Barfi, she ventured into Hollywood as a singer, with tracks like “In My City” and “Exotic.” She later appeared in films such as Baywatch, A Kid Like Jake, The Matrix Resurrections, and Love Again. Looking ahead, she will star in Head of State alongside Idris Elba and John Cena, and she also has Frank E. Flowers’ The Bluff in the pipeline.
