Actor Rahul Bose, who has appeared in over 50 films, recently shared a story about the humiliation he experienced on the set of his first film. In a recent interview, Rahul recalled how, despite being the lead actor, he was never given a chair to sit on while the producer and his relatives were provided with chairs.

Speaking to The Lallantop, Rahul said, “I was not given a chair to sit in my first film. I was the lead actor. I have never struggled; I went straight from the stage to playing the lead role, and the film had no heroine—it was just me. Yet, I was never given a chair on set. Sometimes I would sit on a road divider or a parapet, as if it was no problem, but other people always had chairs. The producer, his sister, his uncle—everyone got a chair, except me.”

After enduring several days of this treatment, Rahul decided to take matters into his own hands by bringing his own chair to the set, and not just any chair—a “fancy” one. “I went to a restaurant, and they had a fancy version of the chair that was on set. It cost Rs 10,000 about 30 years ago, but I got my own chair. Since that experience, I always bring my own chair to the set because I never want to go through that humiliation again.”

Aparshakti Khurana, who co-stars with Rahul in his upcoming film Berlin, confirmed this story. “I saw that on set—his chair comes separately. I have seen that very chair he’s talking about.” Rahul added, “But this comes from a place of pain. Now, if I see anyone on set without a chair, it’s out of the question—they have to sit.”

Rahul Bose began his acting career in the late 1990s with the critically acclaimed film English, August (1994), where he portrayed the lead character, Agastya Sen. The film was directed by Dev Benegal. He is currently promoting Berlin, which also stars Aparshakti and Ishwak Singh in lead roles. Directed by Atul Sabharwal, the film is set to release on Zee5 on September 13.
