Ryan Reynolds unmasks the man dancing to NSYNC’s ‘Bye Bye Bye’ in his costume in Deadpool and Wolverine: ‘He’s doing a lot of the moves’ | Hollywood News

While director Shawn Levy’s Deadpool and Wolverine, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the lead roles, continues its successful run at the box office, Marvel Studios has already announced plans to further expand its cinematic universe with Robert Downey Jr, known for playing the iconic Tony Stark aka Iron Man, returning to the MCU as the villain Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday (2026).

Though many were impressed by Deadpool and Wolverine, some felt that the superhero film, the 34th instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and a sequel to Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018), did not meet their expectations. Nevertheless, most of the audience appreciated the movie’s opening scene, where the Merc with the Mouth takes on a group of Time Variance Authority officers while dancing to American vocal group and boy band NSYNC’s famous track “Bye Bye Bye” from their third studio album, No Strings Attached.

However, Ryan Reynolds recently revealed that he was, sadly, not the one performing the dance moves in the opening sequence, crediting choreographer Nick Pauley for the same. “Confession for you… A lot of people don’t know I can sing and move well, but that is actually the first lie I’ll tell today. A guy named Nick Pauley is the guy that choreographed, and I mean he’s doing a lot of the moves that have been established previously by NSYNC,” Reynolds told With Ashley and Company.

“If it looks like the person who’s dancing doesn’t have arthritis, that’s him. There’s the moments where, you know, there’s a bit of a pop and lock, except the pop, the pop really pops, like it cracks. And the lock will not unlock. So yeah, I would do anything I could to free myself up. But yeah, I will hang on Nick Pauley’s talent. I will hang my hat on his talent there and thank him for his contribution and services,” he added.

Pauley later shared a video on his Instagram of himself performing to “Bye Bye Bye”. “Thank you Ryan Reynolds for believing in me to play Dancepool! It is the greatest honor of my life!” he noted.

Besides Reynolds and Jackman, Deadpool and Wolverine also stars Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen in key roles. The movie has so far recorded an India nett collection of Rs 72.7 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. According to Deadline, the film’s international performance has been phenomenal, earning around $440 million (Rs 3,600+ crore) worldwide in its first weekend. Deadpool and Wolverine hit the screens on July 26.

Festive offer

In her review of the movie, The Indian Express’ Shalini Langer wrote, “Deadpool and Wolverine doesn’t want to be taken seriously, but it puts all its money, muscle and, because it’s Deadpool, into ensuring that you damn well do.”
