Sachin Pilgaonkar, who recently shared that he shot some of the scenes of Sholay with actor Amjad Khan as they were a part of Ramesh Sippy’s direction team, has now said that he was misquoted. Sachin said that he is now “scared” to talk about Sholay as people are just looking for controversies. The actor also said that he did not clarify this confusion with director Ramesh Sippy as he has enough faith in their relationship and knows very well that the director would never think little of him. Sachin also acted in the film.

Talking to Radio Nasha, Sachin said, “I am very scared to talk about Sholay.” He then added, “I have to be careful when I talk about Sholay because people misquote me. I say something and people write something else.” Sachin then said that Ramesh Sippy is like his guru and he has learnt a lot from him. “Don’t misquote me. I am saying something and you are writing something else and you are saying this about someone who is my guru, Ramesh Sippy. I didn’t even call him to clarify this because I know he will laugh at this. He knows what I am and he knows how he has groomed me. He knows me. So I know this will not bother him but it bothers me, it bothers the people who love me,” he said. Sachin added that people are looking for “controversy”.

Recently, in a chat with Kunal Vijayakar on his YouTube channel Khaane Mein Kya Hai, Sachin Pilgaonkar shared that Ramesh Sippy chose him and Amjad Khan to represent him on the second unit. “Rameshji decided to have a second unit to do some action sequences which don’t feature the main stars. These were just passing shots. For this, he had a director of stunt films, Mohammed Ali bhai. He was a renowned stunt filmmaker, and with him was an action director, Azim bhai. And the latter got two guys from Hollywood, Jim and Jerry. He (Ramesh) wanted two persons to represent him because these people came from other countries. How would they know about the film and what’s happening? At that time, there were only two bekaar (useless) people in the unit: one was Amjad Khan and the other one was me,” he said.

In the same conversation, he said that Ramesh would shoot the scenes with the film’s stars Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjeev Kumar. He said, “He was supposed to come only when Dharamji, Amitji and Hari bhai (Sanjeev) had work. Rameshji shot those portions, and we handled the remaining scenes.”

Festive offer

Written by Salim-Javed and directed by Ramesh Sippy, Sholay continues to be one of the most discussed Hindi films even after 49 years of its release.
