On the occasion of Guru Purnima, Saira Banu shared a heartfelt note, expressing her deep gratitude to her mentors. She reflected on the significance of the occasion, emphasising how it serves as a reminder of the profound impact mentors have on our lives. She wrote about feeling fortunate to have been blessed with revered gurus who shaped her journey, especially in Indian cinema and her life with Dilip Kumar.
“Personally, I see it as a moment to be thankful and appreciative every single day. I consider myself fortunate to have been blessed with many revered gurus throughout my life, whose teachings and guidance have profoundly shaped me, especially in my journey through Indian cinema and after my marriage to Dilip Sahib,” she wrote, alongside a series of photos.
One mentor she highlighted was Roshan Kumari Ji, a Padma Shri awardee and Kathak exponent, who worked with legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray. Roshan Kumari Ji taught her the art of Kathak, and Saira credited her achievements in classical dance to Kumari’s dedication and guidance. “She imparted to me the art of classical dance – Kathak of the Jaipur Gharana. Her grace and discipline were nothing short of a masterclass and a blessing to the Indian art form. Everything I achieved in classical dancing is attributed to her; she dedicated herself fully to nurturing and shaping me as a classical dancer,” read an excerpt from her long note.
Another important figure was PL Raj Ji, the choreographer of her first song in Junglee, “Kashmir Ki Kali”. Saira also mentioned her rehearsal composer, Shalini Deshpande, who played a crucial role in perfecting her dance movements. “Shalini Deshpande left no stone unturned and painstakingly rehearsed with me what movements had been set for me in the respective dances.”

Saira Banu expressed her love and respect for these mentors, acknowledging the indelible mark they left on her life. She promised to share more stories about them in the future, highlighting their invaluable contributions to her journey. “Today, I remember them with immense love and respect. I feel compelled to share their stories and the indelible mark they have left on my life. Their influence remains a guiding light, and their contributions to my journey are invaluable. More happy stories of us all together a bit later on. #HappyGuruPurnima,” she concluded the post.
The actor recently also shared a heartfelt note for late actor Rajendra Kumar, on his birth anniversar. She wrote on the picture posted on Instagram, “Remembering the legendary Rajendra Kumar ji also known as Jubilee Kumar on his birth anniversary. He wasn’t just a prominent actor with whom I had the pleasure of sharing the screen in much-loved films like Jhuk Gaya Aasman, Ayee Milan Ki Bela, and Aman, Rajendra ji was also a cherished family friend and a constant well-wisher.”
