Sarfira box office collection day 4: Akshay Kumar-starrer nosedives on Monday, has collected just Rs 13 crore so far | Bollywood News

Akshay Kumar’s Sarfira, the Hindi remake of Suriya’s National Award-winning Soorarai Pottru, crashed on its first Monday despite showing a jump in its earnings over the weekend. Helmed by Sudha Kongara, Sarfira was released in cinemas on Friday, July 12. According to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, Sarfira, on its first Monday (July 15) earned Rs 1.40 crore. The film witnessed a jump of 70 percent on Saturday, by collecting Rs 4.50 crore. On Sunday, the film saw growth of another 20 percent, collecting Rs 5.50 crore. The movie had a disastrous opening day, however, registering Akshay’s worst debut in 15 years.

Akshay Kumar plays an aspirational entrepreneur in Sarfira, his 150th film. However, it has been one of the worst performing films in the career of Akshay Kumar. However, it is doing better than Selfiee (2023), Akshay’s film with Emraan Hashmi, which delivered a lower opening weekend (Rs 10.3 crore) than Sarfira, among all of Akshay’s recent films. Sarfira is inspired by the life of Capt Gopinath, the founder of Deccan Airlines, and also stars Radhika Madaan, Paresh Rawal and Seema Biswas in key roles.


Sarfira witnessed at overall occupancy of 11.63 percent on Monday, with most people catching the night show of the movie. In Mumbai, where there were 390 shows, and the occupancy stood at 10.50 percent. In Delhi and NCR, the occupancy stood at 11.25 percent with 525 shows. In the south of India, audiences are choosing Kamal Haasan’s poorly received Indian 2, which was also released on July 12. Indian 2, in it’s first four days at the box office, has raked in Rs 62.3 crore nett, whereas Sarfira’s nett total stands at Rs 13.40 crore.

Akshay, who had reportedly tested positive for Covid-19 last week, has now recovered. He was even seen attending the wedding reception of Indian business tycoon Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani’s son Anant on Monday evening. The actor has been battling a string of failures in recent years, with only Sooryavanshi and OMG 2 emerging as hits.
