After portraying a struggling student in 12th Fail and an obsessed lover in Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba, Vikrant Massey is set to return in the role of a serial killer in debutant director Aditya Nimbalkar’s Sector 36. This time, he’ll be pursued by Deepak Dobriyal, who plays a determined police inspector hunting Massey’s character for his heinous crimes. The trailer for the film was released on Thursday.

The trailer introduces us to Prem Singh (Vikrant Massey), a house help in an affluent residence in Sector 36. It begins with Inspector Ram Charan Pandey (Deepak Dobriyal) interrogating Prem in a dimly lit room while a video camera records the proceedings. The story then moves to Prem enticing a child with a chocolate in the slums of Sector 36, with chilling visuals hinting at him committing a murder. Ram Charan’s investigation leads him to the bungalow where Prem works, and he questions Prem’s wealthy employer. As the plot thickens, Ram finds himself in pursuit of a cunning serial killer, as the stakes grow personal when multiple children from a basti (slum) in Sector 36 go missing. The trailer notes that the film is inspired by true “shocking” events.

The tension escalates when the cat-and-mouse game between Prem and Ram begins, reaching a peak as Prem abducts a young girl at a Dussehra fair. Ram relentlessly pursues him, while facing pressure from his superiors to drop the case of the missing children. However, Ram remains determined to bring the criminal to justice.

Talking about his role in Sector 36, Vikrant Massey said in a statement, “Stepping into the character of Prem for this film was unlike anything I’ve done before. To convincingly play a layered and terrifying killer who could pass off as any other person has been difficult. Aditya (Nimbalkar) has done a great job in creating this gritty world meticulously. This is an incredibly important film, and as storytellers, alongside Netflix and Maddock Films, we hope the audience will be able to see the need to tell stories like these.”

Deepak Dobriyal added, “I was captivated by the Sector 36 script from the very beginning. It’s a powerful thriller that brings to light class disparity, and how crime thrives when left unchecked. Inspired by true events, my character brings an investigative urgency to an exciting film that focuses on the hunter and the hunted. I am grateful to Netflix, Maddock Films, Jio Studios, and Aditya Nimbalkar for this opportunity.”
