Choreographer and filmmaker Ahmed Khan was asked the million-dollar question during a recent interaction: Who is the best dancer among Bollywood’s three Khans – Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, or Aamir Khan? While the choreographer didn’t name the best dancer, he differentiated their dancing styles and emphasized that what’s more important is that people have accepted them.
Speaking to Siddharth Kannan, he said, “All three of them have their own charm. I did my first film, Rangeela, with Aamir Khan and created the hook step for the song ‘Ayi Ayi Yo.’ Aamir would ask how many steps there are, put in that much effort, and make it perfect. With Shah Rukh, I have done multiple films, from Yes Boss to Pardes and many others. He can spill all over. He can offer multiple options for the same shot and will openly say, ‘I can’t do it. Take whatever is within my style.’”
He added, “I did ‘Jumme Ki Raat’ with Salman, and I think it’s his only song to win a Filmfare Award for Best Choreography. So all three are great dancers because people have accepted them. Many people dance better than them, but have they been accepted? All three are outstanding. It’s a filmy thing, but if the public has accepted them, then who are we to judge?”
In an earlier interview with O2 India, Ahmed admitted that while the three Khans are “not great dancers,” they know how to make a dance performance work with their unique style. “These guys are not great dancers but they know what to do, how to perform in a particular music, with particular lyrics, and what their audience will like. So they come with their inputs in terms of persona. They will never say what they want to do. Whatever you make them do, they will do it in their own style and it will work,” he said.
