It’s official, Shah Rukh Khan is all set to star in Sujoy Ghosh directorial film King. The actor was recently honoured at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland with the prestigious Pardo Alla Carriera Award for his contribution to cinema. During the event, the actor confirmed his film King and also revealed some interesting details about the same.
During a live interaction with Artistic Director of the Locarno Film Festival, Giona A. Nazzaro, Shah Rukh Khan opened up about the back story of how he signed King. He said, “I finished Jawan and Dunki last year. Now, there’s a certain kind of film I want to do. Maybe its more age centric and its something I have been trying for over 7 years. One day, I mentioned it to Sujoy Ghosh in my office. He said, ‘sir, I have a subject.’”
Further explaining his process of choosing a film, the actor said, “Its very simple. I have a desire to do a genre–could be comedy, courtroom drama, or social. I just put it out in the air, I meet a couple of people, some of them have a subject, I hear it, I spend time with them and we just go ahead and make the film.”
Shah Rukh Khan, after a gap of over four years, returned on screen with Pathaan and Jawan last year. Explaining how he does action, the actor cited King and said, “The next film I’m doing, King, I have to start working on it. Have to lose some weight and stretch a little so my groin doesn’t get caught while I am doing action. Its very painful and hurtful. I have two bag full of icing machines. It’s the worst thing to see me on set after action. I look really cool in the film, but after that I look tied up, somebody is pressing my back. It’s difficult to walk and then suddenly you see people and send them flying kisses.”
Shah Rukh expressed his gratitude after receiving the Pardo Alla Carriera Award. He said, “Thank you all for welcoming me with such wide arms-wider than the ones I do on screen.”
According to reports, King will also star Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter Suhana Khan, marking their first collaboration together. Suhana made her acting debut with Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies along with Boney Kapoor and Sridevi’s daughter Khushi kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson Agastya Nanda, among others.
Reportedly, King will feature Shah Rukh Khan as a mentor to Suhana’s character and is going to be in the same zone as the 1994 acclaimed actioner Leon. According to Bollywood Hungama, the film will be made on a budget of Rs 200 crore.
