Actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha has seemingly responded to recent comments made by his son, Luv, about the marriage of his daughter Sonakshi Sinha to actor Zaheer Iqbal. Luv confirmed that he didn’t attend the wedding, implying that he doesn’t support the union. Shatrughan Sinha, on the other hand, appeared to make it clear that Sonakshi and Zaheer have his blessings. Rumours around the relationship began doing the rounds weeks before the wedding, which was held privately with only close friends and family in attendance last month. Luv’s twin, Kussh, attended the wedding but said that it was a ‘sensitive time’ for the family.
Taking to X on Tuesday, Shatrughan Sinha thanked prominent personalities for their congratulatory messages, and described Sonakshi and Zaheer as a ‘made for each other couple’. He wrote, “Thanking everyone for their blessings love & warm congratulatory messages. But most touched to have received extremely heartwarming affectionate wishes from most learned, intellectual par excellence the great Arun Shourie elder brother, statesman Yashwant Sinha & of course the most deserving, Magsaysay Award winner Ravish Kumar for the ‘made for each other’ couple Sonakshi Sinha & Zaheer Iqbal.” As if to hammer home the point he was making, he concluded his tweet with the hashtag, “#SinhaParivar.”

On Monday, Luv Sinha posted an article that seemed to allege that the groom’s father was mixed up in suspicious activities. Sharing the article, he thanked the author for doing proper ‘research’, and wrote in a tweet, “The reasons are very clear as to why I didn’t attend, and would not associate with some people no matter what. I’m glad a member of the media did their research instead of relying on creative stories being put out by a PR team.”
In the week leading up to Sonakshi and Zaheer’s wedding, Shatrughan had said that couples these days don’t seek permission from their parents, but simply make their own decisions. While he didn’t confirm or deny the marriage at that point, he later came out in support of his daughter. Videos and images from functions leading up to the wedding showed him with the couple. He was also present when Sonakshi and Zaheer completed the legal formalities under the Special Marriage Act.
The veteran actor was admitted to hospital over the weekend, which Luv attributed to a viral infection and ‘weakness’. Tweeting on Monday, he congratulated Team India on its Cricket World Cup victory against South Africa, but made a pointed reference to the negative stories being circulated about infighting within the Sinha family. “Away from the ‘controversy & confusion’ created by some of our good friends from the social media/Youtubers,” he wrote.
