Heeramandi actor Sonakshi Sinha and her longtime partner Zaheer Iqbal are all set to tie the knot on Sunday (June 23). A leaked digital wedding invitation has revealed that the ceremony will take place in Mumbai. While celebrities like Poonam Dhillon and Honey Singh have confirmed the news, neither the couple nor their families have commented on the speculation. However, a close associate of Shatrughan Sinha has now confirmed that the rumours are true.
Recently, Pahlaj Nihalani, a film producer, former chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), and a close family friend of Sonakshi’s, confirmed the wedding and his attendance at the event. Nihalani also addressed rumours that her father and TMC MP Shatrughan Sinha might not attend the ceremony due to purported strained relations with Sonakshi.
In an interview with Times Now, Nihalani, who considers himself Sonakshi’s “maama,” stressed that a wedding couldn’t happen without the uncle’s presence. Regarding Shatrughan Sinha’s recent comment that he was unaware of the wedding, Nihalani suggested this might be because the TMC leader had been away for three months due to the Lok Sabha elections. He assured that Sonakshi’s mother Poonam Sinha would have kept up with the wedding plans and likely informed him upon his return. Nihalani emphasised that Shatrughan would definitely be at the wedding, adding, “All is well between Sonakshi and her family.”
When asked if Shatrughan was upset about not being informed earlier, Nihalani remarked that while he was upset, he wouldn’t remain so for long as Sonakshi is his “laadli” (darling). He further questioned why the father would be unhappy with his daughter marrying her chosen partner, noting that “Shatruji himself married a girl of his choice 40 years ago.” Nihalani also confirmed that the wedding will take place on the morning of June 23, with a reception in the evening.
