Shibani Dandekar recently shared insights into her relationship with Farhan Akhtar’s daughters, Shakya and Akira, from his first marriage. In a conversation with Rhea Chakraborty on her podcast Chapter 2, Shibani discussed how Shakya and Akira made her feel welcome. She also praised Farhan’s ex-wife, Adhuna Bhabani, for raising open-minded daughters who made her feel like a part of the Akhtar family instantaneously.

Shibani expressed, “The Akhtar family is super evolved and liberal. They have a way of thinking and approaching things that never made me feel like an outsider. Shakya and Akira have been raised to be incredibly thoughtful. Their awareness of the dynamics within this family is so well understood and accepted that it makes this journey much easier.” Referring to the Akhtars as an “extended blended family,” Shibani acknowledged that there are moments when they face challenges and often find themselves navigating a situation, but she considers herself “lucky” to have candid conversations with them.

Farhan added that his daughters and Shibani have built a strong rapport that is independent of him, a bond that stands on its own. Shibani chimed in, giving credit to both Farhan and Adhuna for raising their daughters to be “open-minded, understanding, and kind.” She said, “This is also a huge credit to both their parents. They have raised them to be open-minded, understanding, kind. They aren’t the average young adult teenagers. I am dealing with two girls who have taught me so much.”

Shibani also opened up about her role in their lives, praising Farhan’s first wife, Adhuna, and clarifying her approach to her relationship with the girls. She said, “My approach was pretty simple. They have an incredible mother, they have an incredible father, the rest of us are just here to kind of fill in and support wherever we can. That’s the way I see my role. Whatever the girls need, whenever their parents need my help, however they need that help, I am here for that.”

Farhan and Adhuna were married for 17 years, tying the knot in 2000 before separating in 2017. Farhan and Shibani began dating in 2018, and the couple got married in 2022.
