Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s debut series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, has garnered both praise and criticism from viewers. Alongside discussions about its authenticity, the Netflix show has ignited a debate about nepotism. Sharmin Segal, who is Bhansali’s niece, plays a key role as Alamzeb, Mallikajaan’s daughter. The actor is receiving hate comments and claims of being a nepo-baby after the show came out. Now, actor Shruti Sharma, who played a crucial role in the show, has come out in support of Sharmin.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Shruti said that trolling is bad and revealed that she had no idea about Sharmin’s situation. She said, “Honestly, I wasn’t aware that people were trolling her until now. I don’t know what audiences have liked or not liked about Sharmin, but I’ve seen her trying her best like everyone else on the sets. It doesn’t matter who’s being trolled, but trolling is a bad thing to do.”
She added, “Criticism is one thing; healthy criticism is always welcome, but trolling is unacceptable. It is a very negative way of approaching anyone. It is a kind of mental harassment. If it is happening, I am very concerned for her right now.”
Talking about her character, Shruti expressed her happiness with Saima. She says she trusts SLB’s decisions and believes he has a vision that has shaped Indian cinema’s history. “You can’t question his vision. He has given history to Indian Cinema. It is Sanjay Sir that we’re talking about,” she said.
Sharmin is yet to react or issue a statement about the trolling. Because of all the negativity online, Sharmin turned off comments on a recent picture of her with Sanjay Leela Bhansali at the Los Angeles premiere of Heeramandi. Heeramandi also stars Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari and Sonakshi Sinha in pivotal roles.
