Three years after the first season of Korean show Squid Game, the teaser of the second season of the show dropped on Friday. The new teaser shows Lee Jung-jae’s Seong Gi-hun, who won the game in the previous season, struggling to accept his new reality. He then finds himself back in the game wearing the same jersey he wore previously, number 456.
At the end of the first season, Gi-hun managed to win the game but even after winning the money, he was traumatised by what he witnessed inside the arena. He then vows to take revenge against the game-makers. It looks like this time around, the new season won’t just be about surviving the game, but also dismantling it from its core.
Hwang Dong-hyuk returns to direct the new season. Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo reprise their roles from the first season. The new cast members include Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an.

The first season of Squid Game was a global hit. The show followed a group of people who are put inside an arena and are asked to compete in children’s games. Failure in the game will result in the player’s elimination by death. As the players move from one round to the next, the games get tougher. The player who wins at the ends getting 45.6 billion won. Towards the end of the show, the audience finds out that the games are being witnessed by rich American industrialists, sort of like Hunger Games, and are betting on the contestants.
At the time, Squid Game was the most watched series on Netflix. The success of the show got in nominated at the Primetime Emmy Awards and Golden Globe Awards.
Squid Game Season 2 premieres on December 26. The show has already been renewed for another season after that.
