Besides being one of the most significant movies in the career of late actor Sridevi, as it marked her return to the silver screen after a 15-year hiatus, director Gauri Shinde’s English Vinglish (2012) proved to be a monumental film for actor Adil Hussain as well. The exposure from the movie greatly boosted his career and his portrayal of Satish Godbole, the husband of Sridevi’s character Shashi Godbole, was widely acclaimed.
Interestingly, after a gap of 12 years, Adil is now gearing up to share the screen with Sridevi’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor in the movie Ulajh, directed by Sudhanshu Saria. During a recent conversation with DNA, Adil discussed the similarities between Janhvi and her mother. “I think the inheritance is very obvious that she is focused and sincere. When I say that, I mean that one is constantly aware of what’s happening in the scene, knows their lines, and is listening to the director very carefully. To be aware of oneself and respect the director and co-actors, that I have seen in Sridevi Ji and also in Janhvi,” he said.
“Janhvi was a regular visitor to the sets when we shot English Vinglish 13 years ago, so I saw her at the age of 14. I am presuming that she must have observed very carefully what her mother does because I see that kind of dedication in her work now,” he added.
Besides Adil and Janhvi, the spy thriller film Ulajh also stars Roshan Mathew, Gulshan Devaiah, Meiyang Chang, Rajesh Tailang and Rajendra Gupta in key roles. Bankrolled by Vineet Jain under the banner of Junglee Pictures, the film’s cinematography, editing and music are handled by Shreya Dev Dube, Nitin Baid and Shashwat Sachdev, respectively. Ulajh will hit the screens on August 2.
