Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree 2 has set a new benchmark with the highest single-day collection on Sunday, earning a massive Rs 58.5 crore, as per the box office numbers released by the makers. This has brought the film’s total domestic collection to Rs 204 crore and its worldwide collection stands at Rs 283 crore.
Stree 2 had a promising start and has maintained a strong upward trajectory since its release. Although the movie saw a slight dip in its earnings on Friday, it bounced back with over a 40 per cent increase on Saturday, collecting Rs 43.85 crore. The film’s box office journey was further boosted by stellar numbers on Sunday.
In terms of first-weekend collections, Stree 2 has outpaced both 2023’s blockbuster Gadar 2 and 2024’s highest-grossing film so far, Fighter. While Gadar 2 amassed Rs 94.78 crore during its first weekend, Fighter earned Rs 67 crore. However, Stree 2 surged ahead, raking in Rs 98.85 crore over its debut weekend. The movie has now become the third highest-grossing film of 2024, trailing only behind Fighter and Shaitaan.
Despite facing competition from two major Hindi releases on Thursday—Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein—Stree 2 remains undeterred. The Amar Kaushik-directed film continues to dominate the box office, leaving behind John Abraham’s Vedaa with a modest Rs 13.25 crore and Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein with Rs 13.95 crore.
Stree 2 is part of producer Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy universe, which began with Stree in 2018 and also includes Roohi, Bhediya, and Munjya. Released earlier this year with minimal promotions, Munjya still managed to earn Rs 107.48 crore during its theatrical run, making it the sixth biggest Hindi hit of the year.
