One of the year’s most-anticipated Hindi films, Stree 2 debuted its first trailer on Thursday. Directed by Amar Kaushik, Stree 2 is a sequel to the runaway hit first film, which made nearly Rs 200 crore worldwide in 2018. Since then, producers Maddock Films have created an entire shared universe of movies around it, with the latest being the sleeper hit Munjya, which made Rs 130 crore worldwide.

The trailer of Stree 2 begins with a voiceover teasing the arrival of a new ghoul, ‘Sarkate’, a Sleepy Hollow-type headless creature who rides around on a horse. To tackle this new foe, the central trio of buddies – Vicky, Jana, and Bittu – summon Shraddha Kapoor’s mysterious character from the first film. She leaps into the trailer doing somersaults, and assists the three friends, and the wise Rudra, in taking down the new villain.

The trailer has plenty of visual effects-driven scares, but also the one-liners that fans of this franchise have grown to love and admire. There are jokes directed at the film Kabir Singh, and at the viral meme ‘Sonam bewafa hai’, as well as Rajkummar Rao himself.
