Even when Arijit Singh is in a concert surrounded by thousands of people, it looks like he is playing his guitar in his drawing room, notes singer Sunidhi Chauhan, who says the former is nonchalant about his appearance or if the audience is looking at him, as he is completely immersed only in music, always.
Arijit has emerged as the biggest name in the Hindi music industry, dominating Bollywood chartbusters for over a decade now. The singer enjoys an unprecedented popularity and Sunidhi, his senior in the profession, lauded his humility towards his craft.
“He is still a student,” Sunidhi Chauhan said about Arijit Singh on Raj Shamani’s podcast. Sunidhi said Arijit is such a gifted singer that even when he croons someone else’s song, people feel it’s his.
“Whatever the genre, he is able to adapt himself according to that, which is a big quality. He does that without changing his voice, otherwise to jump into a genre, you tweak your vocals. A lot of people do that, I don’t think he does that a lot. He has become too big to try something like that.”
Sunidhi Chauhan then tried to decode his success, attempting to answer why people love him so much. The singer said despite all the love and attention Arijit receives, he isn’t in awe of himself and that reflects in his art and conduct.
“I think he doesn’t love himself enough, that’s why he is able to do what he is doing. He is a student, he doesn’t think he is Arijit Singh. He doesn’t love himself so much. Whatever little I have known of him, he is chilled out. He loves to listen to other people, adapt from all the singers he likes.
“He sings their songs on stage, in his own concerts! It doesn’t have to be Lata ji or Kishore Kumar ji, it can be a new singer’s song also. He just wants to make music. He doesn’t want to be heard, he wants to sing, we want to hear him,” she added.
