The vice-chancellor of Kerala University has reportedly denied Bollywood actor Sunny Leone permission to perform a dance show on the University College of Engineering campus in Thiruvananthapuram on July 5, according to Malayalam media outlets.

As per a report published on On Manorama, Dr Mohanan Kunnummal, the vice-chancellor of Kerala University, directed the registrar to ensure Leone’s performance was not included in the program list. This decision follows a tragic incident in November last year when a stampede at a concert at Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) in Ernakulam resulted in the deaths of four students and injuries to over 60 others before singer Nikita Gandhi’s performance at a musical festival.

Following the incident, the Kerala High Court said that the stampede during the annual tech festival was clearly due to “some failure” and “should never have happened”.

In light of the recent stampede-related deaths during union programs at Thiruvananthapuram Engineering College and Cusat, the state government has banned external DJ parties and music nights on campuses.

The vice-chancellor emphasised that, despite this order, the University College union attempted to organise a dance program without the university’s permission. He stated that under no circumstances would such programs be allowed on or off campus in the name of the union.

The 43-year-old is set to appear in an upcoming Malayalam film. In April, she shared a glimpse of the muhurat ceremony on Instagram, expressing her excitement about the project, despite accidentally burning her hands. The film is directed by Pampally. Sunny was last seen in Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy, alongside Rahul Bhat and Abhilash Thapliyal.
