Sometimes, love is in the differences and couple Swara Bhasker and Fahad Ahmad know it best. The duo has revealed how they fell in love and got married despite a mountain of differences between the two, from their class background to caste. The actor got married to the activist in February last year. Appearing together on the podcast Couple of Things hosted by actor Amrita Rao and her RJ husband Anmol, Swara and Fahad spilled the beans on how there was not a single point of commonality between the two when they met each other in December 2019.
Fahad said, “There was linguistic difference. Her mother was a professor at JNU, her father was a respected Naval officer, who would also write columns for English newspapers. In my house, no one had even passed 10th standard. I was the first guy who got the opportunity to study and I did my PhD from Tata Institute.”
“There was an urban-rural divide. I come from a small part–which isn’t even a district– of Bareilly city. Even our religion is different. I am a pasmanda Muslim, which comes under OBC, she is a Brahmin. The only thing common was our sexual orientation, we both are straight. We have crossed all barriers, of caste, religion, cities-villages, class. It is challenging, but full of fun,” he added.
“There is one more difference,” Swara laughed and added, “I am older than him!” Fahad quipped that Swara always reveals this bit to people, but he is fine as there is “nothing to hide”.
Swara Bhasker also recalled being in awe of Fahad Ahmad the first she met him, struck by how refreshingly candid he was from the people of the entertainment industry, who are always a bit “cautious”.
She added, “He is really candid, honest. He will speak his mind no matter where in front of who. People from our field, the media and entertainment industry, will be conscious of how we are looking, what are we speaking. We will try to fit in and when I met him, it was the first thing I noticed about him.”
Swara Bhasker and Fahad Ahmad became parents to a baby girl, Raabiyaa, last year on September 23. The actor was last seen in the film Jahaan Chaar Yaar, which released in 2022.
