Tabassum Fatima Hashmi, famously known by her stage name Tabu, is one of the most accomplished actresses of Hindi cinema. Known for playing troubled women in most of her films, Tabu recently made headlines with her blink-and-miss appearance in the new teaser of Dune: Prophecy–a prequel series. With so many films to her credits and several accolades, when the actress was recently asked if now she is at a place where she can call the shots, the 52-year-old actress was quick to reply, “I can’t.” The actress also talked about dealing with insecure actors and how she has refused doing films with Shah Rukh Khan.
In a new interview with Galatta India, Tabu talked about dealing with insecure actors and said, “Even if I say its important (to have secure actors), its not necessary that you be blessed with secure co-actors.” The actress laughed as she said, “So you have to make do with whatever you get.”
“When you take up a project, you will have to complete it. Now you do it happily, or be upset about it, have a good experience or bad, it gets completed on its own. That’s your commitment to the project. Now, how you have dealt with it emotionally and how it has impacted other areas of your life that you get to know later. I have met all kind of people–good, bad, ugly. You have no option. Ideally, it would be great to have good atmosphere on set but I also feel insecurity is a very primal human emotion”, added Tabu.
Despite having been in the industry for over three decades, Tabu said, “I can’t call the shots and tell the script writer to write in a specific manner. I just get the script and I will take up the project if I like it and I will refuse it if I don’t like it. But, I am not going to tell them that write a particular scene for me, add an action sequence.”
The actress also spoke about never crossing paths with Shah Rukh Khan in terms of acting project. When asked why she hasn’t ever starred with Shah Rukh in any film, the actress said, “I am not a producer, nor a director or a script writer. I am really not dictating who Shah Rukh Khan works with and which films are going to be made and which films are going to be offered to me next. I can only say yes or no to what is being offered to me.”
However, in the same interview, the actress revealed, “There were films that were offered to us (Shah Rukh Khan and Tabu). I know the films I have refused and I am sure he must have also refused a few films. So, nothing really happened where our paths were crossed.”
Tabu, who was recently part of the sleeper hit Crew, is gearing up for the release of her film Auron Mein Kaha Dum Tha, alongside Ajay Devgn.
