The Ryan Gosling- Emily Blunt action comedy The Fall Guy was released in theatres on Friday. Ryan stars as stuntman Colt Seavers in the film, directed by David Leitch. It seems that Ryan’s decision to trade his fur coat for a stunt harnesses didn’t sit well with fans in India, as the film had a lacklustre start at the box office. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 50 lakh on the opening day.
The Fall Guy premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin in March 2024. According to Deadline, The Fall Guy earned $3.15 million from Thursday previews in the US, including $800k from early access screenings on Wednesday and ticket sales from 3,200 locations on Thursday.
Ryan’s previous film, Barbie, captured the audience’s interest and performed exceptionally well at the box office. The film collected Rs 5 crore on the opening day in India. The Greta Gerwig directorial minted Rs 43.80 crore over the course of its theatrical run. Globally, it grossed over $1.4 billion.
Zendaya’s Challengers was also released in theatres last week. As reported by TOI, the film collected just Rs 4 lakhs on the opening day. However, there was a limited release in India.
The Indian Express film critic Shalini Langer gave The Fall Guy 2.5 stars. A part of the review read, “David Leitch – once a stunt performer himself and behind thrilling action movies such as Bullet Train, John Wick – and his writers with similar films under their belt, don’t want to let the stunt angle go waste. So the relationship between Colt and Jody is just a wafer-thin plot to hang all the fighting, car and boat chases, blasts and destroyed vehicles, and hand-to-hand combats.”
