Actor Jenna Fischer, best known for her role as Pam Beesly on the NBC sitcom The Office, recently shared that she was diagnosed with “aggressive” breast cancer in 2023. However, she also informed her well-wishers that she is now cancer-free after undergoing surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation.
Jenna posted a lengthy note on Instagram, accompanied by a photo of herself celebrating with her husband and kids after beating cancer. She captioned the post, “October is breast cancer awareness month. I never thought I’d be making an announcement like this but here we are. Last December, I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Triple Positive Breast Cancer. After completing surgery, chemotherapy and radiation I am now cancer free. I wanted a photo of myself in my patchy pixie looking happy and healthy to go along with this news.”
In a series of slides, Jenna detailed her battle with cancer. She explained how her cancer was “aggressive” but also treatable. She underwent a lumpectomy, a surgery to remove a portion of breast tissue. Jenna elaborated that although the cancer was removed from her body through surgery, she still needed to go through chemotherapy.
She also shared that “some great wigs and hats with hair” helped her conceal her cancer struggle for a year. Jenna urged her followers and fans to be proactive and take measures to catch cancer at an early stage. “My tumor was so small it could not be felt on a physical exam. If I had waited six months longer, things could have been much worse. It could have spread … Consider this your kick in the butt to get it done,” she wrote.
She added, “As anyone who has had a cancer diagnosis knows, your life changes immediately. It becomes all about doctor appointments, test results, treatments and recovering from treatments. Suddenly everything in your life is geared around one thing: fighting cancer.” Jenna expressed that it takes an “amazing village” to combat cancer and thanked her family, friends, and medical professionals for their support during her fight against the disease.
Fischer portrayed Pam Beesly on The Office for all nine seasons from 2005 to 2013. She was last seen in the musical film adaptation of Mean Girls.
