There’s been a dearth of new films at the cinemas and so, the trend of re-releases has picked up all across the country. Shah Rukh Khan‘s 2004 film Veer Zaara too joined the list of films and re-released on September 13. In seven days of its re-release, the film earned Rs 1.57 crore nett, taking the film’s lifetime collection to Rs 100 crore worldwide. This includes the film’s original collection from when it released back in 2004.
The film, re-released on 282 screens, opened to Rs 20 lakh on Friday, followed by Rs 32 lakh on Saturday, Rs 38 lakh on Sunday, Rs 20 lakh on Monday, Rs 18 lakh on Tuesday, Rs 15 lakh on Wednesday, and Rs 14 lakh on Thursday, according to film trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
During its original run in 2004, the film earned Rs 98 crore gross worldwide. The film had a re-run in February during Valentine’s week, and earned Rs 30 lakh gross, followed by Rs 1.8 crore gross in its recent release. The film’s lifetime collection stands at Rs 102.60 crore gross worldwide.

The film, written by Aditya Chopra, was directed and produced by his father Yash Chopra. Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, the film also stars Rani Mukerji and Priety Zinta in the lead roles.
Veer Zaara was re-released alongside folklore horror drama Tumbbad. The film, originally released in 2018, has collected over Rs 13.15 crores at the box office, all set to surpass its original net collection of Rs 13.50 crore. Tumbbad is one of the most successful re-releases that have hit the screens recently. Films like Rockstar and Laila Majnu have also found success during their re-release.
