Previously Rajkummar Rao was seen in the all-time blockbuster Hindi film in India: Stree 2. The movie also starred Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana, among others. Stree 2, released on Independence Day, earned over Rs 855 crore worldwide. Meanwhile, Triptii Dimri was last seen in Bad Newz, also starring Vicky Kaushal and Ammy Virk. The film had opened to Rs 8.3 crore and went on to collect over Rs 113 crore globally.
