Vijay Varma recently opened up about his skin condition, vitiligo–a condition that causes patches of skin to lose colour. The actor in a recent interview revealed how he dealt with the condition given his acting career. The actor talked about the issue at a recent college event.
In a chat with Times of India, the actor said he didn’t make a big deal out of it. “It is just a cosmetic thing, and it is not really anything that can change the course of your life”, said the Darlings actor.
When asked if he faced any setbacks in the industry due to his skin condition in his career spanning 12 years, the actor confessed his condition used to bother him when he used to be out of work. “I would wonder if this would become an obstacle. But ever since I have been working and seeing a lot of success, it hasn’t bothered me”, said the Dahaad star.
Talking further about his condition and not keeping it a secret, the 38-year-old actor said, he cover his skin condition only when he has to face camera. “I don’t want my audience to look at anything else except for what I want to show them.”
However, for public appearances, he has never covered his condition. He said people today are very intelligent and also have innate sense of responsibility. He said he was never been spoken about loosely for my skin condition. “Maybe if it was some other time, then this could have possibly become a topic of discussion.”
Vijay Varma is all set to star in Anubhav Sinha’s web series debut IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack. The Netflix drama also stars Pankaj Kapur, Naseeruddin Shah, Dia Mirza, and Patralekhaa, among others.
What is vitiligo
As per NIH, vitiligo is a chronic autoimmune disorder that causes patches of skin to lose pigment or color. This happens when melanocytes – skin cells that make pigment – are attacked and destroyed, causing the skin to turn a milky-white color.
