Phogat was unable to meet the weight criteria for the 50 kg final on Wednesday morning, leading to her disqualification. Sources indicate she was approximately 100 grams overweight. Under competition rules, this resulted in the loss of not only the gold medal opportunity but also the silver, leaving the category with just a gold and bronze medallist. Despite staying awake all night and resorting to intensive weight reduction measures, Phogat couldn’t overcome the deficit.
Earlier, Bollywood celebrities, including Taapsee, Rajkummar Rao, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Ayushmann Khurrana, and Riteish Deshmukh, congratulated her for her victory and applauded her for her achievements. Riteish Deshmukh lauded Phogat’s performance, tweeting, “That’s what a champion looks like after beating the World No. 1 & Defending Olympic Gold Medal holder #VineshPhogat.”
Taapsee, praising the wrestler, calling her a benchmark for future generations and highlighting her courage in the face of adversity, took to her Instagram stories to share a couple of photos and a video of Phogat from her match the previous day, Taapsee wrote, “This woman is going to be recalled as a benchmark in a lot of ways for decades to come! What a woman! What a crazy year she has had and what courage she has shown. Your fan for life.” In another story, she wrote, “And she did it! Walking towards the final like a champion.”
