Days after his statement that working on director Atlee Kumar’s Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan (2023) “was my worst experience ever,” YouTuber and content creator Viraj Ghelani has softened his stance, saying that working on the movie wasn’t all bad and that he should have worded his comments differently. Viraj also mentioned that his statements “were blown out of proportion”.
During a recent appearance on The Having Said That Show podcast, Viraj was asked about his cameo in Jawan, to which he responded, “Don’t talk. F*ck. Why did I do it? People are very sweet who watched the film for me that I watched your part. But it was my worst experience ever.” He claimed that such movies headlined by stars, don’t take content creators seriously. Viraj also criticised the work culture on the Jawan set. The content creator further expressed disappointment that his scenes were edited out, despite working on the film for 10-15 days, resulting in a blink-and-you-miss appearance. “Creators are cast for their clout only,” he added.
After his words made headlines, Viraj Ghelani backtracked slightly, saying he should have phrased his comments more wisely. “I shot for around 13-14 days but only the scenes that were shot on day one of the shoot were taken in the final cut,” he told Hindustan Times. However, he clarified that he wasn’t aware that his part was going to be cut so significantly. “When I went to watch the movie with my fiancee, I was a bit disappointed in that particular moment. It wasn’t my worst experience shooting and working in that film.”
“It was just disheartening to see only one scene at the premiere. I had even told my friends ki mai Shah Rukh ki film mai araha hu, so vahan thoda bura laga tha. I am also a content creator so I understand editing,” he added.
During the podcast, Viraj Ghelani had also claimed that he was spoken to quite rudely by some crew members. Clarifying this statement, he said he was referring to “random people,” adding that “Atlee was actually the sweetest”. Viraj also mentioned that he did not have any combination scenes with Shah Rukh Khan. “Baat ka batangad bangaya befaaltu mai. Pata nahi kahaan se kahan baat pahuch gayi (The fuss was unnecessary. Look where the conversation started and where it ended up).”
Referring to his comment about his “revenge against Dharma Productions” for reportedly not inviting him to the trailer launch of Govinda Naam Mera (2022), his first movie, Viraj said, “That was also said in a very light humourous way. Shashank Khaitan (the film’s director) is like a mentor to me and Karan Johar and Vicky Kaushal are friends,” he added.
