Influencer and content creator Viraj Ghelani, who made his acting debut with the Dharma Productions film Govinda Naam Mera, recently shared that he was upset about not being invited to the trailer launch of the project, headlined by Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar and Kiara Advani. Viraj said that to get his “revenge”, he asked his followers to bombard the comments section of the trailer with his name. Things got so out of hand that executives at Dharma noticed this, and had to call Viraj and request him to get his followers to stop.
During his appearance on the podcast The Having Said That Show, Viraj recalled his experience on Govinda Naam Mera and said, “I feel they didn’t take me to any trailer launch or all these things because like ‘Isko kyu leke jayenge (Why would we take him)?’” When the podcast hosts asked why, Viraj immediately interrupted them and said that they wouldn’t make the same mistake now.
“Now they will (take me), I will tell you why. Because I felt ‘Yeh log kyu aisa kar rahe hain (Why are they doing this)?’ Then I had the power of Instagram, so I just went on my social media and said whenever the trailer drops, everyone of you guys has to just go on Dharma’s YouTube channel and just say ‘Here for Viraj’. There were about 1250-2000 comments just saying ‘Here for Viraj’,” he shared with a laugh. Viraj said that soon after this, he got a call from Dharma to make this stop. “I got a call from Dharma saying ‘Please isko stop kara (Please make this stop)’. I said ‘f**k, do not mess with Gujaratis’. That was my revenge kind of a thing,” he said.
In the film, Viraj played the role Baldev, who was Bhumi Pednekar’s character’s boyfriend. Govinda Naam Mera was released directly on Disney+ Hotstar to mediocre reviews. Viraj was then seen in the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan as well. On the same podcast, he called it the “worst experience” ever and complained that most of the footage he shot was left on the editing room floor.
